Autumn Lake Lowering
Following a special meeting and much discussion, our Barnet Selectboard voted to begin lowering the lake Oct. 1st, to accommodate a lake resident’s request regarding scheduled retaining wall work on his property. Protests and petitions resulted in the Oct. 1 compromise date, between the asked for September 15th date and instead of the “annual” and “henceforth” post Columbus Day weekend vote last year. This allowed boating to take place at least through our official Barnet foliage weekend, and safe boat removal from the lake shortly thereafter. As it turned out, the deluge of rainfall just before the weekend raised the water level above many docks, and made the compromise date just about right for the annual lake lowering. We counted 33 motorized boats still in the water that weekend, and despite the high – rather than anticipated low – waters, and the brisk fall weather, most of those were still out and about over the weekend with friends and families aboard. (Bundled up in the face of the north wind!). With the promise of a warm and beautiful Columbus Day holiday weekend, it would be nice to still be out there for our evening lake tours, but given the flood conditions, it all worked out for the best.
Next year we should have our new dam gate system, making it easier to handle the varying weather conditions, and we look forward to enjoying our lake through mid October again.
Water quality
Our beach has reopened, all is well.
Thanks go to our Selectboard Chair Ted Faris, for his prompt action and follow through in protecting the lake from potentially adverse backflow that began with the draining of a duck pond in Peacham, caused the temporary closing of our beach while our water’s were tested, and a great deal of anxiety while we awaited the outcome. Knowing we’re OK brings a collective sigh of relief – and renewed appreciation of our lake and its guardians!
Temporary Beach Closing
Friday July 16th -
The public beach has been temporarily closed due to some concern over backflow from a pond draining. Water quality is being tested to make sure all is well. Will keep you posted.
Summer 2010
Welcome to summer!! Never has it been so summer, so soon. Let’s hope it cools down, (just a bit) and lasts right up until Labor Day! Our meeting day is coming up – Saturday July 17th – mark the date! Lots of activity, especially the boat parade, BBQ and fireworks. Our meeting is at 9 am at the West Barnet church downstairs room, all are welcome – to listen, talk, voice concerns, exchange ideas – and it’s a great way to meet your summer neighbors as well.
And don’t forget our “History Mystery”: identify the two boys in our newsletter photo and have a chance to win tickets for two for our famous BBQ dinner!
If you would like to contribute a comment or two, or let us know something of interest that’s going on, “blog” away and email us at lakeharveyassociation@lakeharvey.com.
Enjoy the day!
2010 Annual Meeting and Fireworks
Our annual meeting will be held on July 17th. Fireworks will take place that evening, and the reward party will be on Sunday July 25th.
We hope to see you all there.
Welcome to the Lake Harvey Blog!
Hello and welcome. We’re glad you could stop by. Please use this to get updates about what’s going around the lake and more.

Lake Harvey Day 2011
Another summer! Heaven. Wish we could slow the days down, they seem to go by faster and faster every year.
Our Lake Harvey Day is coming right up- next Saturday July 16th. Meeting at 9:00 am, boat parade at 1:00 (note non motorized boats are welcome this year!) and our great chicken BBQ starts at 3:00. Fireworks of course begin at dusk……
Our boat monitors have been busy protecting our lake from milfoil and other invasive species since Memorial Day. So far so good. So important to us all, not just at the lake but our town of Barnet as well. We thank all our monitors for their dedication. And our Town with its $10,000 contribution toward our monitoring program again this year. Despite the floods of 2011 more boats than ever have come in to our lake at the boat access, and appear to be equally dedicated to keeping our waters pure. So we thank them also!
Check out the summer newsletter (posting shortly) for more information and summer directory. And a picture of our own loon with chick on her back taken over the busy 4th of July weekend. And kayak raffle tickets of course!
See you on the 16th, enjoy the day!
